ChatGPT Enterprise — Definition
ChatGPT Enterprise is OpenAI's top-tier team plan — custom-priced, with SSO, SCIM, extended audit logs, custom DPA, and HIPAA BAA availability on top of the Workspace Agents capability set.
Longer definition
Enterprise is the right plan when governance becomes the binding constraint. Workspace Agents work identically on Enterprise and Business — same connectors, same authoring, same model access. What Enterprise adds is the admin and compliance layer: SSO with Okta/Entra/Google, SCIM user provisioning, 90+ day audit retention, multi-region data residency, custom DPA terms, and HIPAA BAA availability. Pricing is quote-based and typically 2–3x Business at equivalent seat count.
In practice
Enterprise makes sense when: your procurement requires custom DPA negotiation, you need SSO enforced from the identity provider, regulated data (PHI, financial) flows through the agent, or your audit period is longer than 30 days. For most SMBs under 100 seats without these requirements, Business is sufficient.
Common mistakes
- Upgrading preemptively — the 2–4 week procurement cycle is expensive friction if you don't have a concrete governance need
- Assuming Enterprise means different AI capabilities — the agent runtime is the same
- Missing the HIPAA requirement — if agents touch PHI, Enterprise with BAA is mandatory, not optional
